Karachi, Pakistan’s largest metropolis, is preparing for a major boost in its road infrastructure with multiple new bridges and flyovers set to take shape. Mayor Murtaza Wahab on Wednesday inaugurated the construction of a Rs 1.6 billion flyover on Khalid bin Waleed Road in Malir, a project aimed at linking the National Highway with Mehran Highway.
Accompanied by local representatives, Wahab declared that the four-lane structure would be completed within a year. Once operational, the flyover is expected to benefit millions of commuters who rely on these busy routes every day.
“This project will not only ease traffic flow but also help reduce accidents at the railway crossing near Cattle Colony,” he noted.
Tackling Karachi’s Traffic Woes
Karachi’s ever-growing population and rising number of vehicles have long strained its road networks, making traffic congestion one of the city’s biggest challenges. By connecting key highways and bypassing accident-prone points, the new flyover is designed to provide a safer and more efficient commute for thousands of daily travelers.
More Projects in the Pipeline
The mayor also unveiled additional development schemes, including:
• A bridge at Azeempura to ease local traffic bottlenecks.
• A four-lane structure near Quaidabad, expected to significantly improve mobility in the area.
Together, these projects reflect an effort to modernize Karachi’s infrastructure and bring long-awaited relief to residents who spend hours navigating clogged roads.

A Call for Political Unity
Responding to criticism of ongoing projects, Wahab abandoned opposition claims as “baseless propaganda.” Instead, he urged political parties, including the MQM and Jamaat-e-Islami, to unite in pressuring the federal government to release long-delayed funds for some of the major initiatives such as the K-IV water project.
He kept on emphasizing that while politics often divides the city, development should consider to be a shared priority. “We are ready to finish the work we have started and provide lasting relief to the residents of Karachi,” Wahab claimed.
Building Toward a Modern Karachi
As several bridges and flyovers are underway, Karachi is taking all the steps that are needed toward easing its crippling traffic congestion. If executed on time, these projects could mark the beginning of a more connected, efficient and safer road network for the city’s residents.
