Punjab has formally launched its much-talked-about Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar project, turning a long-standing promise of housing for the poor into a practical reality. The initiative began with the first digital ballot, a transparent computerised draw that selected deserving applicants for free residential plots across the province.
For many families, it was not just a bureaucratic step — it was the beginning of a new life.
Emotional Start: CM Calls the Winners Herself
After the ballot, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif personally called some of the successful applicants. One of them was Rukhsana Bibi belonging from Attock, who received a phone call informing her that she had finally secured a plot of land in her own name.
Maryam Nawaz also spoke to Mero Mai from Mandi Yazman and her husband Ramesh Lal, and congratulated them and assured them that the government would stand by them until their houses were actually built, not just announced. For these families, who had spent years in rented homes or informal settlements, the call was more than political symbolism — it was a reflection of recognition and dignity.
Loan Facility to Help Build the House
The scheme does not stop at just giving land. The chief minister declared that each beneficiary will be eligible for a Rs. 1.5 million loan to construct their house.
• The loan will be repayable over nine years
• Monthly installment: Rs. 14,000
This structure is meant to make repayments manageable for low-income households, allowing them to gradually build and own a proper home without sinking under debt.

Where the Plots Have Been Allotted
As per Provincial Housing Minister Bilal Yasin, 2,000 applicants were successful in the first ballot. Plots were distributed in 23 housing schemes across 19 districts of Punjab.
Some key allocations include:
• Jhelum – 730 plots (the highest allocation)
• Kasur – 388 plots
• Faisalabad – 257 plots
• Lodhran – 219 plots
• Okara – 130 plots
• Layyah – 55 plots
• Bhakkar – 52 plots
• Sahiwal – 33 plots
• Sargodha – 25 plots
Smaller numbers of plots were also allotted in Khushab, Bahawalnagar, Mandi Bahauddin, Rajanpur, Attock, Gujrat, Bahawalpur, Jhang, Vehari, and Chiniot.
Apni Zameen Apna Ghar is a Step Toward Security and Stability
For many of these families, owning a plot is not just about land — it means:
• Freedom from constant rent pressure
• A chance to invest in their children’s future
• Emotional security of having a permanent address
The launch of Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar is marking an important shift from promises to delivery. If implemented honestly and consistently, this housing scheme is expected to bring massive transformation in the lives of thousands of low-income families by giving them what they have always dreamed of: a home of their own.
