A key development was the renewal of Telenor Pakistan’s license in October 2021. The renewal, valued at $449 million, secured uninterrupted voice and data services for Telenor’s vast subscriber base, demonstrating a commitment to maintaining service quality and operator confidence in the market.
Expanding 4G Access Through Spectrum Auctions
To address the growing demand for high-speed data, the PTA has successfully auctioned additional spectrum for next-generation mobile services. In September 2021, an auction for spectrum in the 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz bands generated significant interest.
Ufone (PTML) emerged as a major winner, securing 9 MHz of spectrum in the 1800 MHz band, while Telenor acquired additional spectrum to enhance its 4G capabilities. This auction not only provided operators with the necessary resources to improve service quality and capacity but also contributed substantial revenue to the national exchequer.
