In a bid to expand economic activity and attract new investment, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has given the green light for a major new industrial estate near Sialkot International Airport.

The project, which will span 400 acres, is expected to create opportunities for local and international investors while boosting employment and exports in the region.

Focus on Strategic Industrial Expansion

The approval came during a high-level review meeting on existing and upcoming industrial estates across the province. The chief minister emphasized that the location near an international airport offers a major logistical advantage for manufacturers and exporters, especially in sectors like sports goods, surgical instruments, and leather products—industries for which Sialkot is globally known.

Foreign Investors to Be Offered Key Projects

Maryam Nawaz also approved the allocation of four industrial estates specifically for foreign investors. Additionally, industrial zones in Bhalwal, Vehari, and Bahawalpur are under consideration for Saudi investment, reflecting growing economic ties between Punjab and international partners.

In a notable development, the Chunian Industrial Estate has been handed over to the Fisheries Department. The move is aimed at promoting fish farming, seafood processing, and related industries as part of the province’s push toward agricultural diversification and exports.

Financial Irregularities Under Scrutiny

Audit reports presented during the meeting highlighted instances of financial mismanagement within the Faisalabad Industrial Estate and the Punjab Industrial Estates Development and Management Company. The chief minister expressed serious concern and ordered to do action fastly against those responsible for it. She also called for stronger oversight and reforms to guarantee transparency.

Land Protection and Policy Reform

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz made it transparent that the government will not tolerate misuse of any kind of public land. She criticized past administrations for overlooking corruption and directed a review of regulations governing industrial estates to make improvement in

Launch of “E-Biz” Portal for Investors

Maryum declared the rollout of the “E-Biz” portal. Through this platform, investors will be able to apply online for permits, licenses and land-use conversions registrations, significantly cutting down red tape and delays.

The new estate near Sialkot, combined with regulatory reforms and digital services, signals a broader shift toward a more business-friendly and transparent industrial policy in Punjab.
