In a significant step towards public transport improvement, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has revealed the introduction of the province’s inaugural electric bus fleet, ensuring cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and accessible travel choices for marginalized areas.
On her official X (formerly Twitter) account, the Chief Minister announced that 1,100 electric buses are being produced in China, with the initial group of 240 buses expected to arrive on August 22. The initiative represents the initial occasion when smaller districts in Punjab will benefit from an organized, contemporary public transportation system.
Cost-effective and Accessible Transportation
Maryam Nawaz highlighted that the service has been created with a focus on affordability. The cost will be just Rs 20, a choice intended to improve accessibility for employees and students, and low-income households who frequently encounter challenges with costly and unreliable transportation alternatives.
In addition to cost, the buses will emphasize inclusivity.
