To address the persistent issue of crumbling roads, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti revealed on Friday that his administration intends to utilize artificial intelligence (AI) for overseeing and preserving the extensive and frequently isolated road system in the province.
CM Bugti’s Remarks
Leading a senior meeting of the Communications and Works Department in Quetta, CM Bugti characterized the not up to the mark condition of roads as a “huge challenge” for residents throughout Balochistan, where connectivity is highly necessary for commerce, healthcare, education, and everyday living.
“Our community endures significant hardship due to damaged, perilous roads,” he stated. “Providing connectivity involves more than just roads—it entails granting our people access to opportunities, markets, and vital services.”
Adoption of digital solutions
The chief minister kept on emphasizing that the province could no longer depend on old-fashioned, manual techniques to oversee such a vast and challenging area. He encouraged departments to “go beyond conventional approaches” and adopt intelligent, digital solutions that can provide transparent, effective, and accountable outcomes.

During the meeting, officials updated CM Bugti on the suggested AI-driven system. They described how the technology would autonomously evaluate road conditions, detect cracks or damage early on, and prioritize repairs through real-time data—even in distant areas where human inspections are challenging or lag.
This system would allow for prompt maintenance, lower expenses by averting extensive damage, and guarantee that newly constructed roads truly adhere to quality standards.
Efficient use of technology
“Bugti stated emphatically that the efficient use of technology is crucial to avoid the squandering of public funds.” He cautioned that previous road projects had frequently been marred by corruption, poor quality, and quick deterioration—failures that resulted in ordinary individuals being left stranded and discontented.
“Our objective is that every rupee used should benefit the people.” There will be no sacrifice regarding strength, quality, or the structure of road works,” he vowed.
The chief minister also directed the Communications and Works Department to speed up consultations with technical experts, finalize the design of the AI system, and submit actionable recommendations for rapid implementation.
He also stated that modern monitoring would also help in guaranteeing greater accountability from contractors and officials responsible for building and maintaining the roads.
Impact
If the plan is successfully rolled out, the AI system is promising to alter Balochistan’s infrastructure landscape, improving access to remote districts, facilitating trade, reducing travel time, and enhancing safety. For communities long cut off by crumbling roads, the plan offers the hope of better services, stronger local economies, and a real chance at development.
