Makkah Defence Pact Meeting Set for Today in Riyadh as Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye Attend

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye are holding a high-level meeting in Riyadh today, October 5, under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement. The meeting of the Strategic Political and Defence Committee (SPDC) is focused on the latest regional developments and continued defence cooperation among the three countries.

Pakistan is represented by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir. Saudi Arabia and Türkiye are also sending their foreign and defence ministers along with their military chiefs.

The Riyadh meeting comes amid rising regional security concerns, including recent attacks linked to the Houthi conflict in Yemen. Pakistan’s Foreign Office said the meeting will review ongoing cooperation under the Makkah Agreement and discuss developments affecting regional peace and stability.

The Makkah Joint Defence Agreement was signed on August 7, 2026, by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye. The agreement aims to strengthen collective deterrence, defence cooperation and regional security. The first meeting of the agreement’s Strategic Political and Defence Committee was held in Istanbul on August 31, where the three countries discussed steps to institutionalise their security partnership.

Ishaq Dar arrived in Madinah before travelling to Riyadh for the meeting, while Field Marshal Asim Munir and Defence Minister Khawaja Asif joined the Pakistani delegation. Pakistan has said its participation reflects its commitment to regional peace and stability while maintaining close strategic and defence ties with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye.
