Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday inaugurated the Iqbal Flyover at T-Chowk along with a newly completed signal-free corridor on the Islamabad Expressway, marking a major step toward easing traffic congestion in the federal capital.

The two infrastructure projects, completed in a record 77 days at a cost of Rs 1.4 billion, are expected to significantly improve traffic flow, particularly for vehicles entering Islamabad from the busy GT Road. Officials briefed the prime minister during the inauguration ceremony, highlighting the speed and efficiency with which the projects were delivered.

Fast-Tracked Development Praised

During the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the efforts of all departments involved in completing the projects within such a short timeframe.

“The completion of these projects in just 77 days is considered to be a remarkable achievement,” the prime minister said that their major aim is to

  • Provide maximum convenience to the public
  • Ensure smoother, safer travel across the capital

He emphasized that timely infrastructure development is critical for a growing city like Islamabad, where traffic pressure has increased due to rapid urban expansion.

Ending Long-Standing Traffic Woes

The Iqbal Flyover and signal-free corridor are specifically designed to resolve chronic traffic congestion at T-Chowk, one of Islamabad’s most problematic junctions.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who was also present at the inauguration, said traffic jams at T-Chowk had been a daily frustration for commuters for years.

“This flyover and corridor will permanently address the congestion issue at T-Chowk,” Naqvi stated, adding that commuters are going to get immediate relief.

More Projects in the Pipeline

Naqvi also revealed some of the plans to construct a service road alongside the Islamabad Expressway to further reduce pressure on the main carriageway.

He explained that these projects are part of the government’s broader Vision 2027, a comprehensive development plan which is meant to give modern touch to Islamabad through

  • Improved infrastructure
  • Better public services
  • Sustainable urban planning
  • An enhanced quality of life

Under Vision 2027, 134 public welfare projects are currently planned or underway in the capital.

A Boost to Urban Mobility

Officials are of the observation that the newly inaugurated infrastructure would not only improve daily commutes but also support Islamabad’s long-term urban development goals. Reduced travel time, better traffic management, and smoother entry points into the city are anticipated to provide benefits to

  • Residents
  • Visitors

The inauguration is being glanced as a significant milestone in Islamabad’s transportation network, bringing immediate relief to commuters and reinforcing the government’s focus on fast-track, citizen-oriented development.
