The country’s software exports surpassed $1.01 billion during July–May of the current fiscal year (FY25), marking a huge 27.4% increase from $793 million in the same period last year.

As per the State Bank of Pakistan, this is the first time in history that pure software exports have crossed the $1 billion mark within just 11-month— It is considered to be a milestone that highlights Pakistan’s emerging digital capabilities and the growing global demand for Pakistani tech expertise.

Exports reached $3.47 billion in 11 months

Overall, Pakistan’s IT and IT-enabled Services (ITeS) exports reached $3.47 billion during these 11 months. Software consultancy emerged as the biggest contributor, accounting for 29.1% of total IT exports—a testament to Pakistan’s pool of skilled developers and problem-solvers who provide critical digital solutions to businesses worldwide.

Data regarding the export earnings

The data further breaks down IT export earnings into $534 million from computer software, $298 million from call center services, and $199 million from telecom services.

Muhammad Umair Nizam, Senior Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA), called software consultancy the sector’s “core strength,” and it is depicting how Pakistani firms have successfully built trust in international markets by delivering complex, customized solutions.

Challenges are still there facing the industry

Despite this strong performance, the industry faces challenges. Pakistan is projected to finish FY25 with IT and ITeS exports between $3.85 billion and $3.9 billion—just shy of the ambitious $4 billion target. Industry experts are considering this shortfall due to intermittent internet disruptions that disrupted service delivery, especially for remote teams working with clients abroad.

A ray of hope for more growth in the coming year

But industry leaders are positive. With millions of young, tech-savvy professionals, a growing start-up scene, and increasing global interest in outsourcing to Pakistan, there’s a ray of hope for even stronger growth in the upcoming year.

Positive impacts

For many, these numbers are not just representing economic figures. They are the reflections of new opportunities for graduates, remarkable foreign exchange for the country, and a pathway to shift Pakistan’s economy toward knowledge-based, high-value industry.

As policymakers and industry players are investing in better connectivity and infrastructure, Pakistan’s IT sector is set to strengthen its major role as a key driver of the national economy.
