In a key move to enhance urban connectivity and support one of Pakistan’s most ambitious development projects, the federal government has approved the construction of two new interchanges to link the Ravi Riverfront Urban Development Project (RRUDP) with major national motorways.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan at the National Highway Authority (NHA) regional office. The session focused on aligning the rapidly growing Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) master plan with Pakistan’s broader highway and infrastructure goals.

Two interchanges along LSM’s Eastern Bypass and Motorway M-2

The two interchanges will be strategically built along the Lahore–Sialkot Motorway’s (LSM) Eastern Bypass and Motorway M-2, providing direct, hassle-free access to the upcoming Ravi Riverfront City—a futuristic, eco-friendly urban center being developed along the Ravi River.

“This connectivity is essential,” said a RUDA official. “Without smooth access to the national motorway network, Ravi City cannot fully function as the modern urban hub we envision.”

The interchanges are anticipated to drastically cut back travel time for daily commuters and improve logistics for businesses operating in and around Ravi City. Residents who are living in the nearby areas like Shahdara, Kala Shah Kaku and other northern Lahore suburbs will also benefit from quicker and safer access to Lahore’s key urban and economic zones.

During the meeting, Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has given the necessary instructions to the relevant departments to fast-track planning, and execution of the interchanges, emphasizing the importance of keeping pace with the growing infrastructure needs of a modernizing Lahore.

Members who joined the meeting

There were some members who joined the meeting: Federal Secretary for Communications Ali Sher Mehsud, NHA Chairman Shehryar Sultan, and RUDA CEO Imran Amin, alongside other senior figures including COO (retd.) Brig Mansoor Janjua and Executive Director (Engineering) Abdul Waheed Khan.

With these two interchanges, the government is not just building the roads—it’s laying the groundwork for future-ready cities, increased investment potential, and greater regional integration, turning vision into reality—one connection at a time.
