Faisalabad, one of Punjab’s largest and most vibrant industrial cities, is heading toward a major public transport upgrade. The Punjab government is preparing to launch a new Metro Bus and Tram service on the Orange Line route, a modern 20-kilometre corridor designed to ease traffic congestion and provide affordable, comfortable travel for thousands of daily commuters.

As per the plan, the Orange Line corridor will run from Faisal Town on Jaranwala Road to Tahirpur on Jhang Road, connecting key residential, commercial, and industrial areas of the city. The project includes the introduction of 27 metro buses and two tram units, making Faisalabad one of the few cities in Pakistan to have both modes of mass transit integrated on a single route.

Groundbreaking Expected Soon

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is expected to perform the groundbreaking ceremony in the coming days, signalling the formal start of construction. The project clearly depicts the provincial government’s focus on modern, eco-friendly, and people-centric urban transport solutions in major cities.

A meeting regarding the Orange Line project was chaired by Member Punjab Mass Transit Authority and former Chief Secretary Capt (R) Zahid Saeed, along with Faisalabad Commissioner Raja Jahangir Anwar. Officials briefed them that the PC-1 of the project has been approved, clearing a major administrative hurdle.

To make way for this large-scale urban transport project, key departments have been mobilized. The Member Mass Transit Authority and the Commissioner directed WASA, FESCO, Sui Gas, PHA, the Municipal Corporation, and the Traffic Police to immediately start shifting utility services along the project’s alignment.

Another review meeting will be held next week to set clear timelines for this relocation work, making certain that construction begins without unnecessary delays.

Officials believe that the Orange Line metro and tram service will become a major public transport lifeline for Faisalabad. Thousands of passengers are anticipated to make use of the service daily, including students, office workers, factory employees, and shoppers.

By offering fast, affordable, and reliable transport, the project is likely to:

Authorities kept on stressing that the importance of keeping residents informed. People who are living along the route will be notified in advance about temporary service disruptions during utility shifting and construction, so they can plan their routines accordingly.
