Islamabad has deployed citizen-friendly rules for vehicle emission testing, aiming to clean up the capital’s air without creating unnecessary hassle for motorists.

At the heart of the new policy is a simple idea:

older vehicles are the reasons for polluting the environment more, so they need closer monitoring to deal with.

Which Vehicles Should Get Tested?

Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon declared that the new rules apply only to vehicles manufactured in the year 2015 or before this.

If your car is model 2015 or older, you are now required to:

• Undergo a mandatory emission test once every year

• You need to maintain acceptable pollution limits to stay road-legal

Newer vehicles (2016 and onwards) are currently exempt, as they generally meet more modern emission standards and are less likely to be heavy polluters—though they may be included in future policies if needed.

More Testing Points, Longer Hours

To avoid long queues and frustration, the Islamabad administration has expanded both locations and timings for emission testing.

You can now get your vehicle inspected at four different points in Islamabad:

• D-Chowk

• Lake View Park

• F-9 Park

• Metro Cash & Carry

Service hours have also been extended, and testing is now available every Saturday until 4 PM. This is especially helpful for office-goers and daily wage earners who can’t take time off during regular working days.

The Deputy Commissioner personally visited all sites to review arrangements, interact with staff, and ensure that the process remains smooth and respectful for citizens.

What Happens After the Test?

Once your car passes the emission test, authorities will issue a new clearance sticker.

• This sticker will likely be displayed on your vehicle as proof of compliance.

• It can be checked during traffic stops and general inspections.

If a vehicle fails the test, the owner will be advised to

  • Tune the engine
  • Fix faults
  • Address smoke issues
  • Then return for a retest

The idea is not to punish people, but to provide assistance to them to maintain cleaner, more efficient vehicles.

Why This Matters for Citizens

Islamabad has seen worsening air quality, especially during winter when smog increases. Older, smoke-emitting vehicles are a major contributor. These new rules aim to:

• Reduce harmful emissions and improve public health

• Encourage regular vehicle maintenance and fuel efficiency

• Make Islamabad a cleaner, safer, and more livable city

The administration has emphasized the citizens cooperate with

  • Testing teams
  • Treat this as a shared responsibility
  • See the process as an investment in the health of their own families and future generations

In short, Islamabad is leaving no stone unturned to balance strict environmental action with convenience and facilitation, so that cleaning the air becomes a joint effort between the government and the people.
