Instagram Edits, a standalone video editing app developed by Meta, officially launched and despite several delays, the app achieved over 7 million downloads in its first week.

Released especially for users and creators who create everyday Instagram Reels or Stories, the Edit app has recorded about 702,900 downloads from iOS devices in the first two days since its release.

Instagram creators looking for a free editor to help them high-quality-tune their videos now have a new app to try. Released on Tuesday, Edits is designed to guide users through the complete method—from tracking ideas to publishing the final cut. At the same time as the app is intended for Instagram, users can share their videos on any platform and without watermarks.

Among its features are extended camera recording, project management capabilities, and watermark-free export. As stated by Instagram, the application provides a precise timeline with clip-specific editing features primarily tailored to enhance sound, chroma key effects, transitions, and AI-driven image animations.

Edits can even include an “inspiration” tab that allows users to “get inspired” through browsing Reels with trending audio and saving trending Reels for later. The “ideas” tab is intended to assist users in keeping track of their ideas, notes, stored Reels, and more. We have not tried the app yet, but if it is something like CapCut, it’s positive to be a beloved tool among content creators.

“We want to construct the best innovative tools to assist creators in expressing themselves, not just on Instagram or Facebook, but on any platform,” a press release from Instagram stated. “We’ve more exciting features coming soon and will keep listening to feedback to improve the app each week.”

This announcement comes about three months after Instagram head Adam Mosseri stated the company was working on Edits, which he defined as a “full suite of creative gear.”

More upgrades Coming

Meta is already previewing future updates for Edits. Those include keyframe-based animation tools, enhanced AI features, and collaborative modifying that lets multiple users work on the same project. While those upgrades haven’t rolled out yet, they point to Edits being a long-term investment in Instagram’s creator ecosystem.
