In a strong push for development in the garrison city, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has issued a clear directive: complete the Adiala Road flyover and The Mall underpass by May 31.
The chief minister personally visited Rawalpindi on Thursday to inspect the progress of several key infrastructure projects. During her visit, she expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and commended the efforts of the administration and project teams.
On-Site Inspections and Detailed Briefings
Maryam Nawaz was briefed at The Mall underpass project site, where she reviewed the construction quality and ongoing activities. She also stopped by the Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Flyover on Adiala Road and the Rawalpindi GPO Underpass to assess the work being done.
Officials from the Communication and Works Department informed her that the Adiala Road flyover project is 85% complete, while the Mall underpass stands at 60% completion.
Project Highlights and Benefits
• The Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Flyover is being constructed at a cost of Rs 2.3 billion.
• The underpass on The Mall is a Rs 4.38 billion project.
• The flyover will ease traffic for around 79,000 vehicles daily.
• The underpass will serve over 200,000 vehicles each day and will especially benefit patients heading to AFIC and MH by providing easier road access.

The CM emphasized the importance of maintaining high construction quality and also instructed that tree plantation be carried out along both sides of the newly developed roads to enhance the urban environment.
A Signal-Free Corridor for Rawalpindi
The chief minister announced that two more underpasses will be built to create a 26-kilometer-long signal-free corridor on The Mall, significantly reducing travel time and traffic congestion.
Rawalpindi’s Infrastructure Gets a Boost
Construction work is in process on 56 development projects across the Rawalpindi division. With initiatives like these, Maryam Nawaz is leaving no stone unturned to lead Punjab toward a future of smoother commutes, greener roads, and more livable urban spaces.
Senior officials including Senior Minister Mariyum Aurangzeb and Chief Secretary Zahid Zaman Akhtar accompanied the CM during her visit.
