The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has officially initiated an extensive rehabilitation and upgradation project across multiple sectors of the federal capital Islamabad, aiming to improve civic infrastructure, ease mobility, and enhance public safety.
The initiative, launched under the special direction of CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa, marks one of the most comprehensive urban improvement efforts undertaken in recent years.
During a high-level meeting, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza and senior officials briefed the chairman on the phase-wise plan, highlighting sector-specific priorities, restoration timelines, and the machinery deployment strategy.
Zebra Crossings and Public Safety Measures Taken by CDA
CDA officials kept on informing that work on restoring zebra crossings across major highways has already started. These markings are proven to be highly imperative and crucial for pedestrian safety, and are being prioritized near
- Hospitals
- Educational institutions
- Busy commercial centers
- High-traffic intersections
By improving visibility and installing fresh lane markings, the authority is deciding to reduce accidents and encourage better road discipline.
Recarpeting of Major Commercial Zones of Islamabad
Blue Area
As Islamabad’s main business hub, Blue Area will witness comprehensive recarpeting to facilitate smoother traffic flow and reduce wear on vehicles. The Machinery Pool Organisation has already begun mobilizing heavy equipment for the task.

F-6 Super Market (Super Markaz)
This iconic shopping zone will be resurfaced to support thousands of daily shoppers and traders. The project includes lane smoothing, pothole removal, and improved parking markings.
F-7 Jinnah Super (Jinnah Super Markaz)
Known for its vibrant commercial activity, Jinnah Super’s internal roads and surrounding lanes will be fully rehabilitated, offering a cleaner, safer shopping environment.
Sector-Wise Infrastructure Upgrading
Upgradation of I-14
All streets of I-14 will be upgraded in the first phase. The sector, which has long awaited comprehensive road development, will receive fresh carpeting, renewed street markings, and improved drainage coverage.
Infrastructural upgradation in D-12 Markaz
The commercial Markaz of D-12 will glance some of the major enhancements such as
- Resurfaced roads
- Upgraded back lanes
- Repaired footpaths. This will support the rapid population growth in the area.
Infrastructure development in E-12 (Major & Service Roads)
For the first time after long delays in development, E-12’s major roads and service lanes will be recarpeted, signaling accelerated progress in the sector’s long-awaited completion.

Streetlights, Signage & Manhole Safety
The upgradation drive also includes
- Repair of faulty streetlights
- Installation of new poles
- Placement of modern signage boards for public guidance
Speed breakers are about to be built where they are highly necessary to enhance neighborhood safety. Additionally, all sewage and drainage systems—including open service manholes—will be covered and secured.
