In a major step toward improving law enforcement infrastructure, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has opened bids for the construction of nine new police stations in Islamabad.
For years, many of these stations have operated out of makeshift or rented locations, lacking proper facilities to serve the public and support police personnel.
Purpose-Built Buildings for Neglected Stations
The new buildings will be constructed for the following police stations:
• Shams Colony
• Khanna
• Humak
• Koral
• Nilor
• Sangjani
• Kirpa
• Phulgran
• Lohi Bher
As per the project’s PC-I, construction is anticipated to be completed within just six months once work officially begins.
A CDA official confirmed that the total estimated cost was Rs966 million, but the bids received were 15% to 25% lower than the estimate—a result the authority credits to transparent procurement.
“Bids have been opened and are under final review. Once approved, we’ll issue work orders and immediately start construction,” the official said.
DHA to Build Separate Police Station
In addition to the nine stations, the Bani Gala Police Station will be built separately by the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) at Margalla Enclave, a joint housing venture between CDA and DHA.
CDA Member Engineering Syed Naafat Raza said the project is a priority for both the CDA Chairman and the Interior Minister.
“Because of transparency, we received very competitive rates. We’re confident we can finish these buildings ahead of the deadline,” he said.
He added that many police stations currently operate from private buildings or even greenbelts, making proper infrastructure essential.
Renovation of Existing Stations Also Underway
Alongside new construction, renovations of existing police facilities are in progress. Under the first phase, upgrades at six stations are almost complete, with adjustments being made to improve internal operations.
The second phase includes renovation of nine more police stations. Bids have been accepted and contractors are in place, but work is halted for a while as final design changes are being approved.
CDA officials also confirmed that work is nearly done on Golra Police Station (90% complete) and the Women Police Station (80% complete), both of which are anticipated to be finished by the end of the month.
With these developments, Islamabad is on track to significantly modernize its policing infrastructure—a move that promises
- Better service delivery
- Safer work environments
- Improved accessibility for citizens
