Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa on Friday directed officials to ensure the timely completion of the city’s ambitious Gardenia Hub nursery project, describing it as a landmark development that will pave paths for enriching the natural beauty and environmental vitality of the capital.
Visiting the site with members from the engineering and environment wings, Randhawa evaluated the ongoing work, which is now in its advanced stages after months of planning and construction.
Muhammad Ali kept on stressing that Islamabad must have to position itself as a regional leader in horticulture, not just for aesthetic appeal but as part of a broader environmental sustainability strategy.
Muhammad Ali Randhawa’s remarks about Gardenia Hub project
“This project is not just about plants,” Randhawa told officials. “It’s about redefining how our city grows, breathes, and thrives. Islamabad is also called for its green spaces, and Gardenia Hub will take that reputation to the next level.”
A unique aspect of the project includes a small portion of the nursery area being developed in collaboration with Azerbaijani horticulture experts, bringing international knowledge and best practices to the capital’s green efforts.
Construction of modern flower shop
As per CDA press release, the chairman ordered the speeding up of modern flower shop construction, envisioning them as more than simple outlets—they will serve as recreational attractions, drawing families, tourists, and gardening enthusiasts alike.

Plans also call for advanced, climate-controlled greenhouses to be built, designed to optimize plant growth year-round and support state-of-the-art research in plant sciences. These facilities are expected to permit the propagation of rare and exotic species and bolster Islamabad’s capacity to supply high-quality plants to other regions.
Establishment of tissue culture laboratory
One of the most prominent features is the establishment of a Tissue Culture Laboratory, where new plant species can be propagated by making use of modern scientific techniques.
This initiative is expected
- To improve biodiversity
- Introduce innovative plant varieties
- Even open commercial opportunities for local growers
A dedicated floral display area will present seasonal and off-season flowers, allowing residents and visitors a colorful, curated experience that goes through the changing period throughout the year. “This will be a space where people can connect with nature, learn about plants, and simply enjoy the beauty of flowers,” the CDA release stated.
Impacts of this initiative
- The most significant intention behind the Gardenia Hub is basically to improve the green cover of Islamabad, mitigate climate change impacts, and set new benchmarks for urban horticulture in Pakistan.
- Moreover, the project is also anticipated to generate employment opportunities in landscaping, greenhouse management, floriculture, and scientific research.
- By investing in this green infrastructure, CDA keeps on hoping to strengthen Islamabad’s reputation as one of the most livable and environmentally conscious capitals in the region.
