The government of Balochistan is all close to producing its own solar panels, with a proposal to set up solar panel manufacturing plants in Lasbela Industrial Estate at Hub.

The initiative was actually discussed during a meeting of the Balochistan Investment Board and Trade on Monday, reflects the province’s push to embrace clean and renewable energy.

The meeting, chaired by Bilal Khan Kakar, chairman of the board, focused on the local production of solar panel sheets and how the project could create opportunities for both energy security and industrial growth.

Tapping into Hub’s Industrial Strength

Hub was selected as the focal point due to its well-established industrial zone, where the Lasbela Industrial Estates Development Authority (LIEDA) already hosts over 250 active industrial units. These units, officials noted, provide a competitive advantage to investors.

By setting up solar plants under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the government hopes to mesmerize new capital and create jobs opportunities while minimizing dependency on imported solar equipment.

The meeting also touched upon another important subject—making use of Low BTU gas in Sui and Kalat. Harnessing this underutilized resource could further strengthen the province’s energy base, offering cost-effective solutions for local industries.

Government’s Commitment to Sustainable Growth

Speaking at the session, Mr. Bilal Khan Kakar reiterated that the Balochistan government is committed to sustainable energy projects backed by investment-friendly policies.

He said the solar panel project would not only align with Pakistan’s broader shift towards renewable energy but also position Balochistan as a hub of innovation and industrial self-dependance.

The initial report on the solar plant proposal will be prepared and submitted to the provincial government for approval in the coming weeks.

If cleared, the project could mark a turning point for Balochistan’s energy landscape, minimizing the overdependence of the province on costly imports while creating a foundation for long-term green growth.

In many ways, the solar panel plant at Hub is more than just an industrial project—it is a declaration of intent by Balochistan to claim its spot in clean energy future of Pakistan.
