Pakistan’s dream of welcoming Xiaomi’s much-anticipated electric vehicles (EVs) has hit a roadblock. Air Link Communication, the official local partner for Xiaomi, has confirmed that the launch of Xiaomi EVs in Pakistan will be delayed indefinitely, as the Chinese tech giant focuses on fulfilling overwhelming domestic demand in China.

Delay Due to High Demand in China

The update came during Air Link’s recent corporate briefing session, attended by Topline Securities, following the release of the company’s Q1 FY26 financial results.

Management revealed that the Xiaomi EV rollout, originally expected later this year, has been postponed because Xiaomi’s manufacturing plants are currently prioritizing left-hand drive vehicles for the Chinese market.

“Given the surge in local demand, Pakistan’s right-hand drive variant production has been delayed,” Air Link’s management shared, adding that no confirmed timeline for the local launch can be given at this stage.

Air Link’s Broader Expansion Plans

Despite the setback, Air Link remains confident in its long-term strategy. The organization continues to work with the Government of Pakistan to secure export approvals for its mobile and tech products. Once finalized, the company anticipates a potential 200% increase in revenue, reflecting strong future growth potential.

Air Link also announced that it will relocate its operations to the Sundar Green Special Economic Zone by December 2025 or early FY26. This move will grant the company tax exemptions and greater operational efficiency, supporting stronger profitability in the coming years.

Xiaomi’s EV Buzz in Pakistan

Xiaomi’s entry into the electric vehicle market has generated massive excitement globally. Last year, two units of the Xiaomi SU7 Max were spotted at Karachi Port, sparking speculation about an imminent launch. Air Link CEO Muzzaffar Hayat Piracha later confirmed the imports but clarified that local assembly plans would depend on market readiness and policy clarity.

Future Ventures: Apple Store & New Brands

Alongside its Xiaomi partnership, Air Link is also preparing to launch Pakistan’s first official Apple retail store at Dolmen Mall Lahore by the end of 2025. The organization is further exploring manufacturing opportunities with a new mobile brand and engaging with an international electronics company to expand into home appliances, such as

  • Air conditioners
  • Washing machines
  • Microwaves

While the delay in Xiaomi’s EV launch is disappointing for enthusiasts, industry insiders believe Air Link’s diversified expansion strategy positions it well for Pakistan’s evolving tech and manufacturing landscape.
