Toyota is once again turning heads with the Land Cruiser FJ prototype, a new compact SUV that blends the rugged heritage of the Land Cruiser with a smaller, more practical form.

Set to launch in Japan by mid-2026, the new FJ is expected to make its global debut shortly after, targeting off-road enthusiasts who desire Land Cruiser performance in a more compact package.

The FJ will be showcased at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, taking place at Tokyo Big Sight from October 30 to November 9, where Toyota aims to highlight its next-generation design philosophy and off-road capabilities.

Bold Exterior Design

The new Land Cruiser FJ carries a boxy, purposeful design, maximizing interior space while keeping true to the rugged DNA of the brand. Its “dice motif” body features clean geometric lines, flared fenders, and chunky modular bumpers that can be replaced individually — a practical touch for off-road repairs. The overall look is muscular yet functional, perfect for both city driving and trail adventures.

Functional Interior

Inside, the FJ highly focuses simplicity and durability. It features a flat, horizontal dashboard, a center-mounted touchscreen, and a low beltline for better outward visibility. The cabin’s two-row layout comfortably seats five passengers, maintaining the utilitarian feel Land Cruiser fans expect.

Safety and Performance

It is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense, the SUV includes various features such as a Pre-Collision System and advanced driver-assistance technologies for added security on and off the road.

It was built on the IMV platform, the FJ uses a likely ladder-frame-based chassis similar to the Hilux, designed to handle tough terrains. It has 270 mm shorter wheelbase than the LC250, a 5.5-meter turning radius, and extra underfloor bracing for enhanced rigidity.

Under the hood, it is packed with a 2.7-liter 2TR-FE gasoline engine paired with a 6-speed Super ECT transmission, producing 163 PS and 246 Nm of torque.

Adventure-Ready Customization

Toyota is making plans to offer a range of custom accessories, including

  • Retro-style round headlights
  • MOLLE panels for gear organization
  • Outdoor-ready attachments for camping or travel.

Pakistan Launch?

While Toyota has yet to confirm the FJ’s global rollout, its strong Land Cruiser fanbase in Pakistan makes it highly likely that local enthusiasts will soon see this new compact powerhouse on Pakistani roads.
