The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced significant progress on the long-awaited T-Chowk flyover project, reporting that 46 percent of the construction has been completed. Officials keep on saying that the work is moving at a strong pace and could be finished ahead of schedule.
The flyover, costing Rs 1.4 billion, is being constructed at the busy junction of GT Road and the Islamabad Expressway. Once completed, it will provide smoother passage especially for vehicles traveling from Lahore and other parts of Punjab toward Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The structure is planned to be a 1.1-kilometer, three-lane flyover, designed to eliminate frequent traffic bottlenecks at the entry point of the capital.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the project last month and set a 150-day completion target.
Construction Progress So Far
As per to CDA officials:
• All 76 piles have been completed
• 68 girders have been cast
• Retaining Wall I is fully ready
• Retaining Wall II has reached 86 percent completion

CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa recently visited the site and expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction. He emphasized that the flyover would provide signal-free, uninterrupted movement for residents of the twin cities and long-distance travelers.
Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza echoed the optimism, saying the authority hopes to complete the project before the official deadline due to the rapid pace of work.
Other Projects in the Pipeline
Alongside the T-Chowk flyover, CDA is also gearing up to begin work on the Shaheen Chowk underpass project. The contract has been awarded and a formal groundbreaking ceremony is expected soon.
Under this plan:
• An underpass will run along Khyaban-e-Iqbal (Margalla Road)
• Traffic on 9th Avenue will use a top slab, reducing congestion at the intersection
This area frequently jams during peak hours due to the existence of government offices and educational institutions.
Future Plans and Delays
Officials also unveiled two more major projects under consideration:
• Overhauling the Expressway service road, which is currently riddled with potholes between Sohan and Koral
• A connecting road from Margalla Road to the Rawalpindi boundary line
However, land acquisition for the new link road is not completed yet, which is delaying progress.
People living in the area are hopeful that with the ongoing and upcoming projects, traffic flow in Islamabad is going to improve in the coming months.
