Sindh government has decided to spend more on electric vehicles transportation and purchase additional buses and allocate a substantial budget for electric taxis and scooters in the upcoming fiscal year 2025–26.
A meeting was held for detailed review of both ongoing and proposed projects for FY2025–26. These included updates on the Peoples Bus Service, the EV scooter initiative, and plans to launch an EV taxi service in July.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting of the Sindh Transport and Mass Transit Department held in Karachi, chaired by Sindh Senior Minister and Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon.
The meeting also focused on the development of EV charging infrastructure across multiple locations in the province to support this growing transition to electric mobility.
Free electric scooters and the pink bus service
Building on the fulfillment of the pink bus service ladies’ simplest public delivery initiative, the minister announced that the authorities will now distribute free pink electric-powered scooters to ladies throughout Sindh.
“Each year, thousands of women will receive scooters to assist them in journeying independently and safely,” Memon stated, adding that over 8,000 packages have already been acquired.

Free driving lessons and licenses
The government is providing free driving education and licenses to further increase mobility. Thus far, 144 women have been issued driving licenses, and the number is predicted to rise quickly. Transport Secretary Riza Pir showed that the government is masking both training and licensing prices to remove financial barriers.
Commitment to women’s rights
“We are removing every obstacle that prevents girls from being mobile, independent, and financially empowered,” Memon stated, adding that the PPP has a proud record of supporting girls’ rights—from issuing CNICs to securing voting rights.
“This initiative is an extension of that legacy. We’re committed to continuing this development and ensuring ladies are front and center in Sindh’s development journey,” he concluded.
