Sana Mir, the former Pakistan women’s cricket captain, has become the first female Pakistani cricketer to be inducted into the prestigious ICC Hall of Fame, according to a momentous announcement made by the International Cricket Council (ICC). She joins a select group of seven people who will be inducted in 2024.

These people include global cricket icons like India’s Mahendra Singh Dhoni, South Africa’s Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla, Australia’s Matthew Hayden, New Zealand’s Daniel Vettori, and England’s Sarah Taylor.

The major induction ceremony was held at London’s Abbey Road Studios, which are famous for being associated with The Beatles and are close to Lord’s Cricket Ground, where the ICC World Test Championship final is about to begin. Sana Mir, 38, boasts a remarkable career spanning 15 years, from 2005 to 2020, during which she represented Pakistan in 226 international matches across all formats.

Her induction is more than just a personal success; it is also a significant moment for Pakistani women’s cricket, as the International Cricket Council (ICC) acknowledges her significant contribution to raising the sport’s profile both on and off the field. She continues to be Pakistan’s most successful ODI wicket-taker with 151. In 2018, she achieved the distinction of being the world’s leading ODI bowler, marking yet another groundbreaking accomplishment for a Pakistani woman.
