The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has approved major upgrades to cricket stadiums in Karachi and Lahore and given the go-ahead for a new modern stadium in Islamabad. The move is part of efforts to expand the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and bring top-level cricket to more regions.

The decisions were made during a PCB Board of Governors meeting, chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The board approved the second phase of renovation at Karachi’s National Stadium and plans to upgrade Lahore’s LCCA Ground, inspired by England’s Oval.

Pakistan is increasing investment in cricket facilities to strengthen domestic cricket, attract international matches, and make the PSL more inclusive and globally visible.

Naqvi said the PCB is also working to host PSL matches and international games at Muzaffarabad Stadium. The board further approved plans for a state-of-the-art cricket stadium in Islamabad and reviewed preparations for upcoming ICC men’s and women’s tournaments.

Pakistan’s Own Oval-Style Cricket Stadium in Lahore

Pakistan’s cricket infrastructure is set for a major boost as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has approved plans to transform Lahore’s LCCA Ground into a modern venue inspired by England’s iconic Oval Stadium. The project reflects PCB’s ambition to bring international-standard facilities to Pakistan and improve the all-inclusive cricketing experience for players and fans alike.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the PCB Board of Governors, which was held via video link and chaired by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi. The meeting focused on several important matters related to both domestic and international cricket development.

A Modern Vision for LCCA Ground

Under the approved plan, the LCCA Ground will be redeveloped into a high-quality, Oval-style stadium, featuring upgraded seating, improved player facilities and modern media and hospitality areas. While detailed architectural designs are yet to be unveiled, the goal is to create a venue that shows huge alignment with global standards and can host high-profile domestic and international matches.

Officials keep on believing the redevelopment will not only add another premium cricket ground to Lahore but also revive the historic significance of LCCA, which has long been a nursery for Pakistani cricket talent.

Upgrades Across Major Stadiums

In addition to the Lahore project, the Board of Governors formally approved the second phase of renovation at the National Stadium in Karachi. This phase is intended to further modernize one of Pakistan’s most important cricket venues, improving spectator comfort, safety, and operational efficiency.

The board also reviewed the recently conducted PSL roadshows in London and New York, describing them as a success. These events were seen as a major step in promoting the Pakistan Super League as a global brand and attracting international audiences, sponsors, and players.

Focus on Domestic and Grassroots Cricket

Members received the given details on the ongoing scrutiny of regional clubs by a leading private firm, steps to strengthen the domestic cricket structure, and proposals to increase grassroots-level tournaments and matches. Preparations for the upcoming ICC men’s and women’s events were also discussed.
