In a major push toward modernization and customer convenience, Pakistan Railways has partnered with Allied Bank Limited to roll out a modern Point of Sale (POS) system at 348 railway stations nationwide. This initiative is marking a massive step toward digitizing the country’s aging rail network and bringing it in line with global best practices.
A Landmark Partnership for Automation
The agreement was formalized via the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Pakistan Railways and Allied Bank on Monday. Officials explained it as a landmark collaboration that promises to change the way passengers buy tickets and pay for other railway services.
Railways Minister Muhammad Hanif Abbasi highlighted that this project is showing strong alignment with the “Digital Pakistan” vision of PM. The ambitious target of the Gov for completing the execution within 60 days, underscoring its dedication to rapid progress and public service delivery.
Easier, Faster, and Safer Payments
Once operational, the new POS system will allow passengers to pay for tickets and other fees using debit and credit cards—a big shift from the current cash-only system.
Minister Abbasi explained:
• “Passengers will soon be able to pay with debit and credit cards for tickets and other services.”
• “This will reduce reliance on cash and minimize cumbersome manual processes.”
By enabling card payments, the system will also be going to bring Pakistan Railways in strong alignment with modern retail standards, making travel planning simpler and more convenient for everyone—from daily commuters to long-distance travelers.

Ending Long Queues and Improving Efficiency
Moreover, one more advantage of this renovation is its potential to cut down the long queues that have become an all-too-familiar sight at railway stations.
The minister emphasized that the POS system will:
• Eliminate the need for standing in line for cash payments
• Streamline commercial transactions
• Improve overall operational efficiency at stations
This means faster service for customers, less crowding, and a smoother experience for travelers and staff alike.
Strengthening Financial Controls
Digitization is also considered to be the most important tool for improving transparency and accountability. Minister Abbasi noted that the new system will help Pakistan Railways:
• Curb revenue leakages
• Prevent financial fraud
• Minimize accounting errors
The Railways is hoping for tighter financial controls by moving away from cash cash-based system and guarantee that every rupee earned goes back to the system by proper investment.
With the POS rollout, Pakistan Railways is showing that it’s ready to embrace a more modern, efficient and customer-friendly future—offering passengers the ease and reliability they deserve.
