In a major initiative to modernize transportation services, the Punjab government has decided to digitize all toll plazas across the province, putting an end to the decades-old manual slip system. The move is aimed at boosting transparency, reducing congestion, and making travel more convenient for citizens.

Decision Led by CM Maryam Nawaz

The development was confirmed during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, who approved the complete replacement of paper receipts with a digital toll collection system. Officials briefed the chief minister on the new model and its rollout plan across the province.

“One App, One System” to Replace Slips

Under the new model, a “One App, One System” framework—similar to the one currently used on national motorways—will be implemented at 38 toll plazas across Punjab. This is going to permit drivers to pay tolls digitally and avoid delays caused by manual transactions.

Transparency and Cost Savings

It was unveiled during the meeting that Punjab has already saved Rs 40 billion through the use of e-tendering, which has helped curb corruption and increase transparency in government contracts. CM Maryam Nawaz has given instructions to the departments to continue using technology to improve public services and financial accountability.

Public-Private Partnerships for Major Roads

To speed up development and minimize costs, the government has approved five major road projects to be built under public-private partnerships. According to officials, collaboration with private companies will help accelerate project timelines and ensure efficient resource use.

Solar Streetlights for New Roads

The chief minister also ordered that solar-powered streetlights be installed on all new roads. The goal is to promote energy conservation, lower electricity costs and support environmentally friendly infrastructure.

Beautification and Urban Improvements

A number of urban development projects were approved, particularly in Lahore. These include:

• A miniature train for children

• Construction of new roads and footpaths within a three-kilometer radius of the station

Restoration After Flood Damage

The meeting was informed that flood-related damage across the province has been largely addressed. Repairs have been completed on:

• 54 major bridges

• 142 small bridges

• 858 roads

Rehabilitation work in Murree, Chakwal, and Sahiwal has also been successfully finished, restoring connectivity for local communities.
