Punjab is taking a big step toward safer roads by modernizing the way drivers are trained. As part of this initiative, the provincial government has expanded the use of driving simulators across the province, making training more practical and effective.
As per the Punjab DIG Traffic Muhammad Waqas Nazir, simulators have now been installed in driving schools across 20 districts just this month, bringing the total to 28 districts where modern training equipment is already in use.
Just last month, only eight districts had access to this facility, showing how quickly the program is expanding. By the end of the month, driving schools in the remaining 10 districts will also be equipped.
Initiative started from various areas
The initiative began with simulators in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Faisalabad. Seeing positive results, the program was soon extended to other major cities, including
- Gujranwala
- Multan
- Sahiwal
- Okara
- Gujrat

Two stage process with advanced tools
DIG Waqas Nazir explained that this project is part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision for a “safe and modern Punjab.” The idea is to move away from outdated training methods and embrace advanced tools that help produce skilled, confident, and responsible drivers.
The training follows a two-stage process. In the first stage, learners practice on simulators that mimic
- Real-life road conditions
- Traffic signals
- Even unexpected challenges
This actually allows them to build confidence in a safe and controlled environment. Once students are comfortable, they move on to on-road training, where they can apply what they’ve learned in real traffic situations.
Officials keep on believing that this approach will significantly improve road safety. Many accidents happen because new drivers panic when faced with difficult situations. By experiencing those scenarios virtually first, students are better prepared to respond calmly on the road.
