The Punjab government has ratified the rollout of 600 electric buses across the province in order to promote greener urban transport. The initiative, which builds on the success of electric buses in Lahore, will soon going to extend to seven major cities, making it one of the most pioneering green mobility projects in Pakistan’s history.
Cities Set to Benefit
The new electric buses will be deployed in:
• Multan
• Bahawalpur
• Sargodha
• Faisalabad
• Dera Ghazi Khan
• Gujranwala
• Gujrat
Each city has been selected according to its urban transport demands and potential for reducing air pollution and traffic congestion.
A Breath of Fresh Air—Literally
Officials keep on highlighting that this initiative is not just about giving a modern touch to public transport; it’s about improving quality of life. Electric buses generate zero tailpipe emissions, which means:

Comfort Meets Sustainability
According to government officials, these buses are designed to offer:
• Safe and comfortable travel
• International-standard facilities
• Affordable and efficient service
By investing in electric mobility, the Punjab government hopes to encourage a shift away from private vehicle use, reducing road congestion and travel time for thousands of commuters.
From Pilot to Province-Wide Rollout
The decision follows the successful deployment of 27 electric buses in Lahore, manufactured by the Chinese company Yutong. These buses have already proven effective in cutting down emissions while offering a reliable travel experience.
The positive response from the public and transport experts has inspired the provincial government to scale the initiative and bring electric public transport to more cities.
A Vision for the Future
This project is just meant to build a sustainable future, not just building buses. The government is confident that this move will pose various benefits such as
- Creating jobs
- Boosting local infrastructure
- Promoting an eco-conscious mindset among citizens.
Punjab is leading the charge in making the transformation of how Pakistan moves—quietly, cleanly, and efficiently.
