Work on three major development projects in Islamabad is moving ahead “at full pace,” with officials hopeful that motorists will begin to see real relief from traffic bottlenecks very soon. This was shared during a review meeting chaired by Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa on Monday.
T-Chowk Flyover Nearing Completion
Officials told the meeting that around 80% of work on the T-Chowk flyover has already been completed, leaving roughly 20% pending. For thousands of daily commuters travelling between Islamabad and Rawat, this project is expected to be a game-changer, easing chronic congestion and long delays that have become routine during peak hours.
Construction teams are reportedly working round the clock to finish the remaining portion, including final structural works, finishing, and road surfacing. Once opened, the flyover will allow smoother traffic flow and significantly minimize travel time for people heading in and out of the capital.

Shaheen Chowk Underpass Pushed for Early Opening
The Shaheen Chowk Underpass, launched by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on October 24 at a cost of Rs 1.3 billion, is another high-priority scheme. Although the official PC-I allowed six months for completion, CDA is aiming to finish it much earlier — by December 25.
The meeting was informed that girder launching has already begun, and construction activities are ongoing 24/7. In just about a month, substantial progress has been achieved, reflecting the authorities’ determination to deliver the project ahead of schedule. If completed on time, the underpass will provide major relief along a critical corridor, cutting down traffic jams and improving safety.

Faizabad Interchange Loops Being Upgraded
The remodeling of Faizabad Interchange, one of the busiest junctions in the twin cities, was also reviewed. Officials briefed the chairman that work on widening and improving the loops is progressing quickly to tackle long-standing congestion issues.
Randhawa has given the instructions that a comprehensive traffic management plan be prepared in coordination with Traffic Police so that construction does not create unnecessary chaos for road users. The goal is to maintain a reasonable traffic flow while upgrades continue.

24/7 Monitoring Through Cameras
To ensure transparency, efficiency, and timely completion, the meeting was told that cameras have been installed at all three project sites. Project directors and relevant officers have been instructed to monitor construction activities round the clock through these systems, allowing quick intervention if any bottlenecks or delays arise.
‘Assan Khidmat Markaz’ Also Moving Fast
Beyond road infrastructure, the CDA is also working on improving citizen services. The meeting reviewed progress on the “Assan Khidmat Markaz” project, a one-stop public facilitation center. Officials keep on reporting that over 65% of development work has been completed.
The Khidmat Markaz is being developed on modern lines, using digital tools and integrated systems to provide multiple government services under one roof. Once opened, citizens will be able to get various approvals, certificates, and documentation without running from office to office — a shift intended at saving time, reducing hassle, and making governance more people-friendly.
All-inclusively, the briefing painted a picture of intense, deadline-driven activity across some of the major infrastructure and service projects, with authorities under pressure — and seemingly determined — to show visible improvements on the ground in the coming months.
