Pakistan has once again proven its dominance in the world of Scrabble, lifting the Team Trophy at the 20th World Youth Scrabble Championship (WYSC) in Kuala Lumpur. It is clearly indicating the sixth global triumph of the country, further strengthening its reputation as a powerhouse in the game.
Best Moment for a Young Champion
The highlight of the tournament emerged from seven-year-old Taimoor Waseem, son of legendary Scrabble grandmaster Waseem Khatri. Competing with confidence far beyond his age, Taimoor had made the seasoned opponents startled by becoming the Under-8 World Champion.
His achievement is now getting admiration from his peers and also from international officials, who hailed him as one of the youngest players ever to make a mark at this level.

Ahzam Siddiqui made the nation proud by securing gold in the Under-16 division
Bilal Azhar secured silver in the same category, depicting the depth of talent in the national squad. In the Under-10 age group, Muhammad Yusuf earned silver, adding another medal to Pakistan’s tally. Together, these performances clearly depicted both the breadth and consistency of the country’s rising stars.
Beating the Best in the World
WYSC of this year was considered to be the largest in history, captivating 226 participants from 20 countries. Against such strong international competition, Pakistan’s 24-member team stood tall, not just securing medals but also getting the respect of the global Scrabble community.
The team will now ready for the Gateway Masters Cup, which is scheduled for September 5–7 in Kuala Lumpur. With confidence high and momentum on their side, the young players are highly enthralled to extend winning streak of Pakistan on the international stage.
From the youngest champion in history to a strong team performance, Pakistan’s youth have once again showcased that commitment, intellect and teamwork can prove to be the best in placing the country firmly on the world map of mind sports.
