To improve regional connectivity and promote affordable public transport, Pakistan Railways is making plans to launch a new shuttle train service which is going to connect Lahore, Kasur, and Pakpattan.

The initiative is considered to be a major part of the broader plan of the department to restore short-distance train routes, especially to make rail travel more accessible all over the Punjab.

Feasibility Study Completed

As per the official sources, a comprehensive feasibility report for the proposed Lahore–Kasur–Pakpattan shuttle service has already been completed and submitted to the railway administration for final ratification.

The report includes detailed assessments covering technical, operational, and financial aspects — including the condition of existing tracks, projected passenger volumes, and estimated maintenance and operating costs.

Officials said that once the project gets the green light, the shuttle will initially operate on a trial basis, allowing the administration to evaluate passenger demand and route efficiency before expanding the service further.

Affordable and Reliable Travel Option

The new shuttle train is designed to cater to daily commuters, students, and small traders who frequently travel between these districts. By offering a fast, comfortable, and affordable alternative to road transport, Pakistan Railways hopes to cut back pressure on intercity highways while cutting down on fuel expenses and travel time.

A senior official at Pakistan Railways noted that the service is intended to provide consistent, punctual and passenger-friendly transport, especially for those who highly depend on public transport for work or study.

“We are focusing on short-distance, high-demand routes that can deliver maximum public advantages with minimal cost,” the official said.

Reviving Smaller Railway Stations

One of the aims of the initiative is to revive smaller and underutilized railway stations along the Lahore–Kasur–Pakpattan route. Many of these stations, which were once considered to be extremely imperative to local masses, have seen limited activity in recent years.

The shuttle service is anticipated to provide ease for the people in these areas, stimulating local trade and mobility.

Giving modern touch to Pakistani railways

This initiative is considered to be a huge modernization and revival drive for the railways of PK, which includes introducing VIP and luxury saloon trains, improving freight operations, and upgrading passenger facilities nationwide.

Officials keep on believing that if the Lahore–Kasur–Pakpattan shuttle proves successful, similar short-route train services may be introduced in other regions of Punjab to strengthen provincial connectivity and accelerate sustainable, rail-based mobility.
