In a major step toward modernizing the country’s railway network, Pakistan Railways has introduced an upgraded railcar rake for its much-traveled Lahore–Rawalpindi route, one of the busiest passenger corridors in the country.
The initiative reflects the organization’s renewed focus on improving both the comfort and safety of travelers while revitalizing an aging infrastructure that millions of Pakistanis rely on daily.
The inauguration ceremony, held in Lahore, was attended by senior officials and railway staff. Aamir Ali Baloch, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pakistan Railways, led the inspection of the refurbished coaches and lauded the teams involved in the project.
He described the initiative as a major milestone in the broader strategy of Pakistan railway to enhance passenger experience and rebuild trust in the national rail system.
Modern Features and Comforts
The newly upgraded railcars have been redesigned and structurally reinforced to better endure long journeys and challenging track conditions. The interiors now feature refined seating, upgraded sanitation systems, and improved food and beverage services, ensuring a more comfortable and hygienic journey for passengers.
To further enhance passenger safety and convenience, each coach of the railcar has been fitted with first-aid kits, better ventilation, and energy-efficient lighting. The design also pays attention to aesthetics, offering a cleaner, more spacious, and welcoming atmosphere inside the compartments.
Speaking at the event, CEO Baloch kept on emphasizing that these improvements are part of a comprehensive modernization plan being implemented across the national network.
“We are not only modernizing the trains — we are transforming the entire experience of train travel in Pakistan,” he said. “From hygiene and catering to safety and customer service, our major goal is to restore the public’s confidence in rail transport.”
