In a groundbreaking development for Pakistan’s agriculture sector, Pak Tractor Manufacturing Company is preparing to roll out the country’s most powerful tractors yet — ranging from 105 to 140 horsepower (HP).

These machines, developed in collaboration with China’s YTO Group, are expected to alter the game for farmers who’ve long relied on tractors maxing out at around 75–85 HP.

A Leap Forward for Farmers

CEO Humza Wazir has unveiled that the initial phase will see the tractors imported as Completely Built Units (CBUs), with a local assembly line planned within a year. Prices will range from Rs 7.2 million for the 105 HP model to Rs 11.9 million for the 140 HP version.

“This is a historic moment. We’re introducing power levels that can handle modern farming challenges — from deep plowing to pulling larger harvest equipment,” Wazir said, noting that corporate farmers and institutions have already shown strong interest.

Currently, only 1,000–2,000 high-powered tractors are in use nationwide. The company aims to add 500–1,000 new units annually, backed by awareness campaigns to educate farmers on the benefits of modern, high-powered machinery.

Features That Set Them Apart

The new tractors boast advanced engines with 30% torque reserve, Italian drivetrain technology, desert-proof air filters, and wet disc brakes with double circuit air systems for safety. Features like force-down lifters, multiple hydraulic outputs, and power take-off (PTO) options mean farmers can handle everything from soil preparation to irrigation and harvesting more efficiently.

Each model also comes with heavy weight ballasts for balance and stability, making them especially suited for Pakistan’s tough soil conditions.

Importantly, the tractors will be included in the government’s upcoming interest-free loan scheme for agricultural machinery. This makes them more accessible to medium-scale farmers who otherwise might struggle with the high upfront cost.

The Impact on Pakistan’s Agriculture

Experts keep on saying that the introduction of these machines could revolutionize farming efficiency. With stronger tractors, farmers will be able to:

• Cover more land in less time

• Reduce reliance on multiple smaller machines

• Improve crop yields through better soil management

• Cut operational costs over the long term due to fuel-efficient engines

For a sector that contributes heavily, nearly 20% of Pakistan’s GDP and employs a majority of the rural population, these tractors could be a catalyst for modernization and higher productivity.

As one farmer from Punjab put it after seeing the demo, “we cannot say this is just a tractor — it’s a step into the future for us.”
