Murree is the iconic hill station called as the “Queen of the Hills,” has taken a major leap forward in ensuring the safety and convenience of its people and tourists. This is considered to be the highly awaiting Smart Safe City Project, which is now fully operational, providing a mix of technology and responsive governance to improve the visitor experience.
The project will soon be formally inaugurated by Punjab CM Maryum Nawaz Sharif, highlighting the government’s dedication to modernizing public spaces and promoting tourism in the region.
Enhancing Safety and Surveillance
With thousands of tourists visiting Murree every year, safety has always been a primary concern. The new Smart Safe City system brings a range of powerful tools to the table:
• 170 high-definition surveillance cameras installed at key public areas and entry points
• Emergency panic buttons placed in busy tourist zones for immediate alerts
• Environmental sensors to monitor air quality, temperature, and crowd density
• Drones and body cameras distributed to local police for effective monitoring and better accountability
These technologies permit the law enforcement to respond fastly to emergencies, manage crowds more effectively, and keep a closer eye on suspicious activities.

Smart Traffic and Connectivity
One of the highlights of the project is its intelligent traffic management system. Cameras and sensors now monitor incoming and outgoing vehicles, helping reduce congestion — especially during peak tourist seasons.
To make things even more convenient for visitors, the project includes:
• Free Wi-Fi hotspots across major tourist points in Murree
• Real-time updates and alerts to help navigate traffic or avoid crowded areas
These features ensure that tourists can stay connected and safe while enjoying the natural beauty of the hills.
Encouraging Cooperation and Quick Response
A Safe City spokesperson urged all visitors and locals to cooperate with law enforcement and Safe City teams during their stay. In case of emergencies, masses are highly advised to call the helpline 15 without delay.
A Step Towards Smarter Tourism
The Smart Safe City initiative reflects a broader vision for smart, secure, and tourist-friendly urban development in Pakistan. By blending technology with hospitality, Murree is setting a new standard for how scenic destinations can protect and serve their visitors while maintaining their charm and appeal.
