Murree, one of Pakistan’s most popular tourist destinations, is about to witness a major transformation that promises to enhance both its charm and accessibility.
The Punjab government has given the green light to feasibility studies for two landmark initiatives: the construction of a Skywalk Glass Bridge and a Chairlift & Cable Car project stretching from Lakot to Pindi Point.
These ventures, with allocated funds of Rs 72.152 million and Rs 90 million respectively, are expected to significantly uplift the tourism experience in the hill station.
The approval was granted during a meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP), presided over by Planning & Development Board Chairman Dr. Naeem Rauf. The session also sanctioned several other projects across different sectors.
Among these was a Cable Car project at River Indus, Kala Bagh, Mianwali, worth Rs 81.571 million, highlighting the government’s focus on promoting tourism beyond traditional destinations.
In total, schemes worth Rs 5.118 billion were ratified. These included infrastructure, minority development, and IT initiatives. A major highlight was the construction of a road from Danda Shah Bilawal to Ghool via Lawa, District Chakwal, with an estimated cost of Rs 1.374 billion.
Additionally, the Chief Minister’s Minority Development Programme was allocated Rs 1 billion, ensuring equitable support for diverse communities.

Feasibility study for theme parks approved
In Lahore, a feasibility study for a theme park project worth Rs 200 million was also approved, reflecting the government’s aim to modernize recreational facilities in urban centers.
Another noteworthy initiative was the Accelerate Punjab Startups Tech Programme, which will get Rs 2.3 billion to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship among young masses.
The PDWP meeting was attended by various senior officials, including Secretary P&D Board Rafaqat Ali, Secretary Tourism Raja Jahangir, Secretary Minorities Affairs Farid Ahmad, Chief Economist Masood Anwar, and other members of the board.
These new projects collectively highlight the commitment of the gov to boosting tourism, improving infrastructure and supporting inclusive development.
For Murree, the Sky Walk and cable car promise to not only mesmerize more local and international visitors but also provide residents with improved facilities and economic opportunities.
