In a major boost to urban mobility and environmental sustainability, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced the launch of a metro bus service and electric buses in Faisalabad. The initiative is part of a larger development vision to uplift the city and surrounding towns, modeled after the success of Lahore’s transport and infrastructure reforms.
Addressing a gathering at the Laptop and Talent Scholarship Phase II ceremony at Government College University Faisalabad, Maryam Nawaz claimed that the metrobus service will commence operations next year, promising a fast, affordable, and modern transportation system for Faisalabad’s growing population.
Alongside the metrobus, green electric buses are expected to be introduced as an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional vehicles, reflecting the government’s commitment to sustainable development.
She emphasized that Faisalabad’s development wouldn’t be limited to city limits. “We are about to change nearby towns and villages into model communities, ensuring balanced urban-rural growth,” she said. The goal, she added, is to replicate Lahore’s infrastructure success across the province.

Surprise Visits to Monitor Cleanliness and Fuel Integrity
Later in the day, in a surprise move, the chief minister visited Kamoke, where she conducted unannounced inspections of various locations. At one petrol station, she took prompt action after discovering that it was supplying under-measured fuel—ordering the station to be sealed on the spot.
Her visit extended to GT Road, Tiba Muhammad Nagar, the Kasoki Road underpass, and adjacent service roads, where she evaluated cleanliness as part of the “Suthra Punjab” (Clean Punjab) initiative. Expressing dissatisfaction with sanitation levels, she directed local authorities to ensure daily waste removal, penalize violators, and maintain hygiene standards.
she also ordered the renovation, painting, and installation of better lighting at the Kasoki Road underpass, which proves to be a major route for commuters.
These efforts strongly depict Maryam Nawaz’s hands-on leadership style and her administration’s focus on providing better services, cleaner cities, and a more sustainable transport network for Punjab’s citizens.
