Chief Minister’s Children Heart Surgery Program (CMCHSP) in Punjab has reached a major milestone with over 10,000 successful treatments, providing life-saving heart surgeries and care to children nationwide. This achievement highlights the vision and commitment of Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif to protect and improve the health of young patients across Pakistan.
Under this government-funded initiative, children born with congenital heart disease and other cardiac issues receive free, advanced treatment, including surgery and post-operative care, regardless of their family’s financial situation. Families from different provinces have benefited, with the program offering hope and healing to many who would otherwise struggle for access to critical care.
The program is administered through a centralized system led by the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company (PHIMC), ensuring coordinated treatment, follow-up, and support for patients and their families. Health officials and social media posts indicate that the milestone represents both the scope of the effort and its impact on thousands of lives.
This achievement is also seen as part of broader health and social programs launched under Maryam Nawaz’s government, which includes initiatives in education, nutrition, and public health aimed at improving basic services for children and families across the province.

Maryam Nawaz announces free treatment and surgery for children with heart disease
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif launched the Chief Minister’s Children’s Heart Surgery Program for the free treatment and surgery of children with heart disease during her visit to the Children’s Hospital Patriotic Cardiac Surgery Ward of Lahore.
She has also provided child surgery cards among the eligible patients under the program. The operation of a sick child is admissible to be done in a private hospital if there is no place in a government hospital, she claimed after the declaration.
Additionally, she decided to inspect the High Dependency Unit, HDU of the ward, and other departments of the hospital and analyzed the various facilities available in the cardiac surgery ward. The Chief Minister of Punjab inquired about the well-being of the young patients, provided them with gifts, and played Ludo with them.
She highly interacted with the children and prayed, May Allah provide you with better health, we all pray for you. Furthermore, she discussed with the sick children’s parents and inquired about the availability of various facilities.
I must free every citizen of Pakistan of Punjab, including children from the system of queues and anticipations, she claimed. The number of specialist surgeons and allied staff is anticipated to increase the capacity building of pediatric heart surgery in government hospitals.
Additionally, the CM of Punjab claimed, that the first-phase pediatric heart surgery facility is being given in six government and designated private hospitals, including Children’s Hospital Lahore and PIC, Punjab Institute of Cardiology, Faisalabad Rawalpindi Cardiology Institute and PIC, Multan Children and PIC Institute. She further added that pediatric heart surgery is anticipated to be given in the hospitals of Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Sargodha, and Waziraabad in the second-phase facilities.
She also observed the dashboard developed to evaluate the program. CM Maryam also claimed I am highly pleased to initiate the project as a mother, not as a chief minister. I understand the shock that mothers go through on the death of their children, she added.
Maryam also visited the play area for children with heart disease in the children’s hospital and analyzed various facilities available for them. She claimed delivery of one facility for heart surgery of children is considered to be a dedicated effort to remove the tears of mothers and wipe out the disease of young children.
Three hospital authorities declared to the CM more than 5,000 young children die every year due to a lack of timely heart surgery, according to the reports. She claimed, that in Pakistan, the first treatment center for children, young patients from KP, and other provinces would also be treated. Children suffering from heart disease now will not have to anticipate for long, Maryam further told.
