The hustle of Lahore’s busy neighborhoods is about to get a little easier for residents. The Punjab government is fast-tracking the construction of Sahulat On-the-Go Markets, a new initiative aimed at bringing fresh, affordable essentials to people’s doorsteps in clean, well-planned spaces.

On Sunday, Punjab Secretary for Price Control Dr. Ehsan Bhutta toured six under-construction sites in Gulshan Ravi, Shadman, Madar-e-Millat, Faisal Town, Raiwind, and Manga Mandi. He was joined by Punjab Sahulat Bazaar Authority’s Director General and Project Director Roshan Zameer, and Consultant for Price Control Maqsood Ahmed, who briefed him on each site’s progress.

During the visit, Dr. Bhutta instructed teams to speed up work while ensuring strict quality control. “These markets are part of the Chief Minister’s vision to give people not just affordable food, but a dignified shopping experience in clean, organized spaces,” he noted.

More Than Just a Market

The plan includes 15 Sahulat On-the-Go Markets across Lahore, with seven sites in the first phase and the rest to follow soon after. These aren’t traditional bazaars — they’re being designed with modern facilities, better ventilation, organized stalls, and proper waste management to make grocery shopping a comfortable experience.

Shoppers will be able to buy fresh vegetables, fruits, meat, and other essentials at fair, government-regulated prices — a welcome relief at a time when inflation continues to put pressure on household budgets.

Making Life Easier for Communities

For residents in densely populated areas like Shadman or Gulshan Ravi, the new markets are going to cut down the need to travel far or battle traffic just to buy daily essentials. Vendors, too, will benefit from

  • Better infrastructure
  • Safer conditions
  • Increased customer flow

By focusing on accessibility, affordability, and cleanliness, the Sahulat On-the-Go project aims to create a win-win for both consumers and small traders, while helping stabilize prices through better monitoring.

If construction keeps its track, Lahoris could soon be capable of finding themselves walking into brightly lit, organized markets — a small but meaningful improvement in the city’s everyday life.
