With the much-anticipated Test matches between Pakistan and South Africa that started on October 20, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has announced a comprehensive traffic plan to ensure smooth movement across the capital and adjoining areas.
As both teams will be traveling daily between Islamabad and the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, authorities have deployed 310 traffic officials to manage routes, guide commuters, and respond to any blockage problems that may occur during the series.
To minimize inconvenience, the ITP has outlined various substitute routes for the public:
• Margalla Road to Khanna: Motorists are advised to take Faisal Avenue via Blue Area, Club Road, and Lehtrar Road.
• Travelers heading to G-9, G-10, G-11, or Tarnol should also stick to Faisal Avenue, using the stretch via F-10 Road.
• Those coming from Saddar Rawalpindi towards Islamabad should use the Srinagar Highway via Peshawar Morr.
• Drivers entering Islamabad from IJP Road are encouraged to divert towards Sabzi Mandi Road instead.
Traffic officers will be positioned on service roads and major intersections to
- assist drivers
- answer queries
- maintain order
Despite preparations, authorities caution that congestion is still likely during school and office rush hours, particularly on the Islamabad Expressway and Srinagar Highway.
Citizens have been requested to plan ahead, leave early during peak times, and remain patient if delays occur. The ITP has assured residents that every effort will be made to minimize disruption and keep traffic flowing smoothly, especially on match days when movement of teams can temporarily slow traffic.
To keep commuters informed in real time, updates will be shared via:
• Islamabad Police social media platforms
• FM Radio 92.4
In case of emergencies, citizens can contact:
• Pukar-15
• Traffic Helpline 1915
The traffic police have emphasized that cooperation from the public will play a major role in making sure that the city continues functioning efficiently while hosting international cricket guests.
