Vehicle owners in the capital have been given a final warning: clear your pending motor vehicle taxes by October 10 or risk losing your registration altogether.
The Excise and Taxation Department confirmed that thousands of vehicle owners who had not cleared their dues by June 30, 2025, have already been issued red notices. Their registrations stand suspended for now, but officials warned that if the payments are not made by the deadline, the registrations will be permanently cancelled.
The step, taken under the Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965, is part of a broader crackdown to improve tax recovery and bring discipline to Islamabad’s vehicle registration system. Officials added that no concessions or extensions will be granted this time.
To make the process easier, the department has set up special counters where owners can clear their dues. However, those who delay will also have to pay hefty fines in addition to their pending taxes before their registration can be restored.

“This is a final call for all vehicle owners with pending dues. After October 10, no leniency will be shown,” an official told reporters.
The campaign is running parallel to another major enforcement drive by the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP). Starting October 8, officers will launch a strict crackdown on unlicensed drivers. Anyone caught driving without a valid licence—whether they are private citizens or government employees—will encounter
- Arrest
- Vehicle impoundment
- Legal cases
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Nasir Rizvi has directed officers to ensure strict implementation across the city, emphasizing that both unlicensed drivers and their vehicles must be detained at police stations until proper documents are generated.
This double-edged enforcement drive is considered to be a wake-up call for the people of Islamabad. With just weeks left, both vehicle owners and drivers will have a requirement to get their paperwork in order or risk serious penalties.
