Honda is finally bracing up to introduce a hybrid car in Pakistan, marking a major step for the automaker in a market where demand for fuel-efficient and eco-friendly vehicles is rapidly growing.

The declaration has emerged on the surface during the annual general meeting (AGM) of Honda Atlas Cars Limited (HCAR), where President and CEO Masaya Wakuda reassured shareholders that Honda is ready to bring its global hybrid expertise to Pakistan.

Wakuda noted that Honda has been considered to be a pioneer in hybrid technology worldwide, especially in the United States, and that Pakistani customers will soon benefit from the same advanced engineering.

“In addition to Honda’s proven hybrid technology, the new model will feature Honda Sensing—our advanced driver-assistance system designed to make driving safer and smarter,” he said.

Features of Honda sensing

Honda Sensing is a package of state-of-the-art safety features that includes

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Collision mitigation braking

Its introduction in Pakistan will align the local lineup with Honda’s global offerings, making it one of the most advanced vehicles available in the country.

The timing of this move is crucial. Pakistan’s hybrid vehicle segment is heating up, with Toyota recently announcing a $100 million investment in hybrid technology for the local market.

By stepping into this space, Honda signals its intent to remain competitive while offering customers more choices in the face of rising fuel costs.

Shareholders have raised some concerns

The AGM also touched on broader industry issues. Shareholders has raised some of the concerns regarding the recent decision of the gov to permit the import of five-year-old used cars, fearing that it could impact new car sales.

HCAR’s chairman acknowledged the challenge, pointing out that while the policy may increase prices of reconditioned imports, it will also generate additional government revenue.

Automobile policy of Honda

For now, Honda has ratified that the country’s Automobile Policy will stay in effect until June 2026, giving automakers a clearer roadmap to plan their investments.

With this declaration, Honda has gotten the stage done for what could be one of the most eagerly awaited car launches in Pakistan—bringing together fuel efficiency, next-gen technology, and the trust of a brand that has been part of Pakistan’s auto landscape for decades.
