Punjab has taken a significant step toward improving road safety with the launch of its first Heavy Vehicle Driving Training School, set up at the Manawan Traffic Police Lines in Lahore. The initiative, announced by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is aimed at curbing the rising number of traffic accidents happened by untrained heavy vehicle drivers.
Punjab Inspector General of Police Usman Anwar recently visited the under-construction facility to evaluate its progress. He was joined by senior officers including CTO Lahore Dr. Athar Waheed, DIG Traffic Punjab Waqas Nazir, DIG SPU Ghazi Salahuddin, and Safe Cities CEO SSP Amara Athar. All of them talked about how the school could set new standards for professional driving in the province.
Training With Modern Technology
The school will provide specialized training for bus, truck and goods transport drivers, using modern technology and advanced driving simulators. For the first time, drivers will have access to structured programs designed to teach both practical driving skills and road safety awareness.
Courses will cover areas such as safe passenger transport, heavy truck handling, and goods carrier management. Beyond the wheel, drivers will also receive classroom lectures on traffic laws, vehicle maintenance, and responsible road behavior.
