Murree — one of Pakistan’s most beloved tourist destinations — is set for a major transformation, thanks to a series of development initiatives announced by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The focus of the new plans is clear: safer, cleaner, and more accessible travel for both residents and the millions of tourists who flock to the hill station every year.
Green Line Bus Service with Free Travel for Special Groups
Speaking at a ceremony in Murree, the Chief Minister confirmed the launch of a Green Line bus service, equipped initially with 15 modern buses. In a move welcomed by many, she announced that students, senior citizens, and women will be able to travel free of cost — a gesture aimed at promoting inclusivity and easing the financial burden on vulnerable groups.
“These initiatives will provide safe, affordable and eco-friendly travel options for the people of Murree and visitors from across the country,” she said.
Train Service Also in the Works
To further tackle traffic congestion — a persistent problem during peak tourist seasons — Maryam Nawaz revealed that a train service to Murree is also in development. The goal is to reduce reliance on private vehicles, ensuring smoother access to the hill station while protecting its natural environment.
The Chief Minister also shifted focus to healthcare, announcing that the Nawaz Sharif Cardiology Centre, which has already begun offering angiography services, will soon be capable of conducting full cardiac surgeries. Additionally, a new hospital is planned in Bhurban, expanding access to medical facilities for local residents and tourists alike.
Education, Water, and Sanitation Improvements
To strengthen Murree’s infrastructure, improvements in schools, a large-scale water supply project, and sanitation schemes were also unveiled. These upgrades are highly considered to improve daily living standards while preparing the city for increased tourism.
Dedicated District Administration & Tourism Force
To streamline governance, Murree has now been laced with a separate district administration, complete with its own police health, education departments. A special tourism force has also been created to provide visitor safety and hospitality.
With these ambitious initiatives, Maryam Nawaz expressed her vision of turning Murree into a world-class tourist destination — one that is meant to offer natural serene beauty with modern convenience.
