Punjab allocates Rs 150 billion for nine flyovers and underpasses in Rawalpindi

As part of its Annual Development Programme (ADP) for FY2025–2026, the Punjab government has announced a comprehensive infrastructure development for Rawalpindi.

A whopping Rs 150 billion has been set aside for the construction of nine new flyovers and underpasses, which are essential parts of the Mall Road Signal-Free Corridor project. This effort aims to deliver faster, more seamless travel while reducing the city’s ongoing traffic congestion.

  • Overall Funding: Within the ADP for 2025–2026, a total of Rs 150 billion has been set aside for development projects in Rawalpindi.

  • Projects Included: The planned infrastructure upgrades target several major intersections and corridors. The projects include:

  • Race Course Underpass: • Cost: Rs 2.6 billion • Immediate allocation: Rs 54 million for this fiscal year.

  • Chairing Cross Underpass: • Cost: Rs 1.5 billion.

  • Army Graveyard Chowk Underpass: • Cost: Rs 1.9 billion, with Rs 68 million allocated for this year.

  • Kutchery Chowk Underpass & Road Widening: • Cost: Rs 4.45 billion, Rs 160 million allocated.

  • The estimated cost of the Iftikhar Janjua Road Underpass is Rs 1.93 billion, of which Rs 69 million has already been allocated.

  • Jinnah Park Flyover: • Cost: Rs 4.15 billion, Rs 149 million allocated.

  • Ammar Chowk Flyover: • Cost: Rs 3.45 billion, Rs 124 million allocated.

  • COD Chowk (Range Road) Underpass: • Cost: Rs 3.75 billion, with Rs 135 million allocated.

  • Tulsa Road Adiala Underpass: • Cost: Rs 1.69 billion, with Rs 61 million allocated.
