A new contender may soon be entering Pakistan’s pickup truck market, and this one brings a twist of electrification with it. Recent leaked photos circulating on social media show what appears to be the Deepal K50 Hunter, a hybrid pickup truck, parked at a port in Pakistan — hinting that testing or evaluation might already be underway.
The vehicle was spotted positioned near shipping containers and heavy-duty transport vehicles, suggesting that it has either just landed in the country or is being readied for inspection. While Master Changan Motors has not made any official statement, the sighting has become the reason of igniting considerable curiosity among automotive enthusiasts and industry watchers.
What Makes the K50 Different?
Unlike conventional hybrids, the Deepal K50 Hunter uses a range-extended electric vehicle (REEV) setup. In this system, the wheels are fully powered by electric motors, while a 2.0-liter internal combustion engine works only as a generator to recharge the 31.8 kWh battery.
This setup delivers an impressive 268 horsepower and 472 Nm of torque, offering the performance of a traditional pickup while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
Although no localized specs have been revealed yet, its international configuration suggests that the truck is designed for efficiency, lower running costs, and reduced environmental impact. This approach aligns well with Pakistan’s gradually increasing interest in hybrid and electric mobility options.
A New Rivalry in the Making
If introduced, the K50 Hunter would likely go head-to-head with the BYD Shark 6, another Chinese hybrid pickup expected to enter Pakistan soon. Both aim to disrupt the light commercial and lifestyle pickup market by offering cleaner and quieter powertrains without compromising utility.
There has been no official launch date, price indication, or public confirmation from Deepal or Master Changan. However, the vehicle’s physical presence in the country is considered to be a strong signal that groundwork may already be in motion.
If the K50 Hunter moves to market, it could become Pakistan’s first hybrid pickup truck — marking a major step toward electrification in a segment that has long been dominated by diesel engines and traditional drivetrains.
