Chinese automaker Chery has taken a bold step toward electrified mobility by launching the Tiggo 9 C-DM, xfirst plug-in hybrid variant of its flagship mid-to-large SUV. With a staggering driving range of over 1,400 km under WLTC standards, the model has already turned heads in China — and now, it’s reportedly being considered for launch in Pakistan.

Hybrid Power With Long-Distance Capability

Under the hood, the Tiggo 9 C-DM presents a

  • 1.5-liter turbocharged petrol engine
  • Front-mounted electric motor
  • Three-speed hybrid transmission

This setup allows the SUV to switch seamlessly between petrol and electric modes, offering strong acceleration without compromising fuel efficiency.

A 19.43 kWh lithium battery supports fast charging and enables daily electric-only commuting, making it ideal for city use. But where it truly stands out is in long-distance capability — when the fuel tank and battery are combined, the SUV can travel over 1,400 km on a single cycle, eliminating range anxiety entirely.

Along with the hybrid variant, Chery has also refreshed the standard Tiggo 9, which continues to be powered by a 2.0-liter turbo engine. While the drivetrain remains unchanged, comfort and technology features have been upgraded to keep the model competitive in China’s rapidly evolving SUV segment.

For budget-focused buyers, Chery has introduced the Tiggo 9X, a slightly toned-down version of the SUV. It is designed to retain the bold styling of the main model but reduces certain features, allowing it to be offered at a lower entry price.

Pricing in China

Model Price in  China Price in PKR
Tiggo 9X CNY 147,900 Rs. 5.84 million
Tiggo 9 CNY 152,900 Rs. 6.04 million
Tiggo 9 C-DM (PHEV) CNY 165,900 Rs. 6.55 million

Note: These prices apply only to the Chinese market. Export and right-hand-drive versions may be priced differently.

Will It Come to Pakistan?

For now, the Tiggo 9 C-DM remains exclusive to China, but industry insiders suggest that Chery Pakistan is closely evaluating the model. Official statements are anticipated in the coming week, and if approved, the hybrid SUV could become one of Pakistan’s longest-range electrified vehicles, and it is offering an appealing option for both urban and long-distance drivers.

If launched locally, the Tiggo 9 C-DM is going to shake up Pakistan’s premium SUV market, where hybrid and electric options remain limited. With its luxury features, large size, and incredible range, it is meant to pave the way for wider adoption of hybrid technology in the country.
