In a major boost to Pakistan’s automobile industry, Chery Master Pakistan has announced plans to begin local assembly of hybrid vehicles by January 2026 at its upcoming production facility in the National Industrial Park, Port Qasim.

The announcement was made during a groundbreaking ceremony held at the site, where company officials revealed that the new state-of-the-art plant spans over 60 acres and represents a total investment of $150 million.

As per the organization, the project will bring advanced hybrid vehicle technology to Pakistan and support local job creation and skill development in the fast-growing clean mobility sector.

Four New Hybrid Models

Chery, which is currently China’s leading automobile exporter, plans to roll out four locally assembled models from its popular Tiggo lineup — the Tiggo Cross, Tiggo 7, Tiggo 8, and Tiggo 9.

Each of these models will feature plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) technology, combining performance with improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions.

The organization also announced that it is setting up a nationwide dealership network, with 10 showrooms to open in seven major cities across Pakistan by next year.

A Step Toward Green Mobility

Speaking at the ceremony, Samir Malik, CEO of Master Auto Engineering, described the collaboration with Chery Automobile Ltd. as a “transformative step” for Pakistan’s auto sector.

“This partnership will introduce cutting-edge hybrid technology to Pakistan while creating over 2,000 jobs and building local expertise in New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturing,” Malik said.

He added that Chery’s entry into local assembly shows strong alignment with the government’s push toward sustainable transportation solutions and reinforces Pakistan’s potential to become a regional hub for automotive production, which is totally environmentally friendly.

Expanding Global Footprint

Chery, which already operates in more than 120 countries, including regions across Europe, South America, Middle East, Africa, Asia, Russia and Australia sees Pakistan as the major market in its global expansion strategy.

Industry experts believe the move could encourage other international automakers to invest in local assembly, supporting Pakistan’s shift toward greener, more affordable mobility options.
