Islamabad’s growing traffic woes, particularly around busy schools and colleges, are finally getting serious attention. On Monday, the Capital Development Authority (CDA), under the leadership of Chairman and Chief Commissioner Mohammad Ali Randhawa, announced that dedicated parking facilities will be developed for educational institutions located in sectors F-6, F-7, and E-7.

These areas are highly famous for overcrowding, with parents, school vans, and private vehicles often competing for limited space.

The high-level meeting, attended by IG Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, CDA board members, Islamabad Traffic Police, and ICT administration officials, highlighted a “zero tolerance” approach towards illegal parking.

Officials agreed that vehicles parked on main roads not only disrupt traffic but also create safety hazards. Going forward, strict legal action will be taken against those flouting rules.

One of the major decisions was the creation of a special Pak Secretariat Traffic Unit (STU), which will comprise DSP Traffic Police and district administration officers. This unit will specifically monitor and regulate traffic flow around the Pak Secretariat and its surrounding areas.

The CDA chairman further revealed that two new parking areas are already under development near Jama Mosque at the Pak Secretariat and Kohsar Block. These, along with valet parking services, aim to provide permanent relief to employees and the general public.

The IG Police made it clear that wrong-way driving, a common but dangerous practice in the capital, will not be tolerated. Already, 165 FIRs have been registered against offenders, and from October 1st, anyone driving without a license will also encounter strict penalties.

To improve the city’s traffic environment, the CDA also announced that a state-of-the-art signage system is being installed for better navigation and management. Meanwhile, fines will now be imposed on those littering outside hotels and restaurants, with Safe City cameras used to monitor violations.

The CDA chairman has given instructions that daily reports on traffic violations and littering be compiled, while trader unions would be consulted for smooth enforcement. Alongside enforcement, a city-wide awareness campaign will be launched for the provision of education to the citizens about traffic discipline and civic responsibility.

For residents, these measures signal a stronger push towards order, safety, and cleaner streets in the federal capital.
