Balochistan has made a big step toward improving city transport by expanding its China-made Green Bus service in Quetta.

The number of buses has increased from 8 to 25, making public transport more eco-friendly, affordable, and reliable for residents.

This expansion includes 17 newly added buses, bringing the total new fleet to 21 vehicles. Out of these, 17 buses have been assigned to Quetta, while four buses will operate in Turbat.

To improve safety and convenience for women, five of the buses in Quetta are pink buses reserved exclusively for female passengers. The move aims to promote clean transport, reduce traffic pressure, and improve daily commuting in the province.

In a landmark move aimed at improving women’s mobility and safety, Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti on Wednesday inaugurated the province’s first-ever Pink Bus Service in Quetta. The initiative marks a major shift in the province’s public transport landscape, long criticized for being unsafe, unreliable, and inaccessible for women.

Pink Bus Service Promotes Safe and Dignified Mobility

Speaking at the launch ceremony, CM Bugti said the Pink Bus Service is more than just a transport project—it is a commitment to offering women dignified, secure, and affordable mobility. He said the idea builds on other recent steps, including the Pink Scooties Program, which has already helped several women gain independent mobility in different districts.

“This service is a pledge to our daughters, mothers, and sisters,” the chief minister said. “We want them to travel confidently, study freely, and work without fear.”

Celebrating Women Leaders in Government

CM Bugti also used the occasion to highlight the contributions of women deputy commissioners serving across Balochistan. He praised their professionalism, resilience, and leadership, saying their work proves that women are fully capable of managing complex administrative roles.

He emphasized that the provincial government aims to cut barriers for women by

  • Expanding scholarships
  • Training programs
  • Development opportunities across every sector—from education and health to administration and entrepreneurship

Warning Against Extremist Narratives

CM Bugti made a strong statement and said “extremist elements” were attempting to mislead Baloch women and steer them toward destructive paths. He asserted that such groups are not represent the aspirations of ordinary Baloch families.

“We want our women to study, grow, and bring pride to their communities. They deserve opportunities, not restrictions,” he said.

Transport Network Expanding Across the Province

The chief minister also declared that the Green Bus Service, currently running in various parts of Quetta, will soon be expanded to

  • Mastung
  • Turbat

He said the government is actively working on introducing electric buses, both to give a modern touch to the public transport system and to extend help in minimizing air pollution which is the major problem for urban centers.

CM Bugti further mentioned the upcoming Quetta–Sariab Peoples Train Project, describing it as a much-needed upgrade for local commuters and a step toward developing an integrated urban transport network.
